About the Instructor
Janice Puckett
Janice Puckett has been a sought-after pianist and educator in the Maryland/DC area for more than four decades. Raised in Michigan, Mrs. Puckett moved to Maryland after completing undergraduate and graduate studies in Piano Performance at Bob Jones University. Her teachers include Alexander Peskanov, Brian Ganz and Anne Morton.
Mrs. Puckett has served as president of several local music organizations, and in 1992, she founded the Maryland chapter of the Piano Olympics.
Although her teaching at its core is highly traditional, Mrs. Puckett is a leader in the use of technology in the studio and is published by several professional publications on the subject including Keyboard Companion and Clavier.
Mrs. Puckett's level of achievement in teaching is best seen in the students she has produced over the past four decades. Several have gone on to pursue careers in music and have been accepted as music majors in the finest colleges and conservatories in the country. These include Northwestern University, the Eastman School of Music, Westminster Choir College, Catholic University, University of Colorado at Boulder, Frost School of Music (University of Miami) and the University of Maryland.
Equally rewarding are those students who have excelled at piano, but gone on to pursue careers in other fields. Scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors, even a prima ballerina at the world-renowned American Ballet Theatre in New York City recount how their study of music has enriched their lives and growth.
Upcoming publications include a collaboration with Russian concert pianist, Alexander Peskanov. A series of Junior Piano Olympics books will expand the Russian Technical Regimen that was brought to the United States by Mr. Peskanov 30 years ago to include the early beginner.
