Teaching Philosophy
My objective as a piano teacher is to lay the foundation for life-long musicianship by helping each student develop the skills necessary for success. It is my belief that developing strong technique and excellent sight-reading skills sets the stage for a fulfilling, lifetime relationship with music. Although my program is individually tailored to each student, in every case it includes the necessary components of technique, sight-reading, theory, balanced repertoire, and performance skills/techniques. Studio performance classes provide opportunity for students to gain poise and confidence in a safe, supportive environment. My goal is to provide an enjoyable learning environment for students of all ages, abilities, and levels of advancement without compromising the highest professional standard of piano performance.
Music is meant to be shared; therefore, all of my students perform in settings appropriate to their level of advancement and ability. In addition to studio performance classes, students are given opportunity to perform in theme festivals and ensemble festivals throughout the school year. For those who are so inclined and for whom I find it appropriate, there are multiple competitions offered as well.
