Piano Olympics
“Without technical freedom, there can be no chance of becoming a great musician. When one achieves technical freedom, the fingers become an extension of the soul.” (Alexander Peskanov)
Mrs. Puckett joined forces with Alexander Peskanov in 1993 to establish Maryland Piano Olympics, an event that makes mastery of a demanding technical regimen both fun and inspiring! Piano Olympics incorporates the 7 levels of the Russian Technical Regimen Mr. Peskanov was required to master as a student at the internationally-renowned Stoliarsky School of Music in Odessa, Ukraine.
Because even the earliest level is too difficult for the early beginner, Junior Piano Olympics was developed to target the early, young beginner. Mr. Peskanov and Mrs. Puckett are currently working on completing four levels of Junior Piano Olympics books and preparing them for publication.
This is an exciting, multi-faceted event! Each student is evaluated on the technical regimen during a technique test and participates in a masterclass with Mr. Peskanov. There is a tense game of Jeopardy with students demonstrating their knowledge of music theory, music history, Piano Olympics elements, etc, followed by a Parade of Scales in which students display to the parents their progress in the regimen. Finally, there is the “grand finale” concert in which we are treated to a performance by Mr. Peskanov
